The 2nd Conference on Water Research for Young Students (CWRYS 2025) was held on 22–23 September 2025, bringing together young researchers with an interest in water-related fields, environmental research, and sustainable solutions. The event was organized with the involvement of the West University of Timișoara, in partnership with CeCOCe-Vest and SciResCareer, as part of the activities carried out within the national network of research career counselling and guidance centres.
The conference took place within the framework of MISSION 3: Restoring Our Ocean and Waters, at the Institute for Advanced Environmental Research of the West University of Timișoara. It convened researchers, experts, academic staff, students, and PhD candidates interested in current and future challenges related to water resources management.
The main objective of the conference was to identify key needs in the water research domain, with particular emphasis on:
- human resources training and skills development;
- research infrastructure requirements;
- priority areas to be addressed through research, development, and innovation (RDI).
Through this approach, the event contributed to aligning the interests and career paths of young researchers with European priorities on the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
Over the two-day programme, participants benefited from a diverse range of activities, including:
- presentations of the partner institutions and keynote lectures delivered by renowned experts in water and environmental research;
- mentoring and coaching sessions dedicated to young researchers, focusing on research career development and opportunities at national and European levels;
- debates and applied discussions on innovative solutions addressing challenges related to water resources, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability;
- presentations of research projects and initiatives highlighting the contribution of young researchers to the development of sustainable solutions.
Through its active involvement in the organization and implementation of the conference, CeCOCe-Vest, in collaboration with SciResCareer, directly supported the objectives of research career guidance and counselling. This was achieved by facilitating interaction between young researchers and experts, promoting professional development opportunities, and encouraging engagement in strategic research fields of high relevance to society and European policy priorities.
