Adina-Elena Segneanu, assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, and Geography of the West University of Timișoara and a first-class research scientist at the Institute for Advanced Environmental Research (ICAM), was awarded the “Mihail Ghermănescu” Prize for Exact and Natural Sciences, at the UVT 2025 Awards Gala.

In a recent interview, Adina-Elena Segneanu emphasizes that excellence in research cannot exist without passion, patience, and determination, but above all without trust and teamwork, as these are essential elements for overcoming challenges and identifying innovative solutions.

With a solid interdisciplinary background combining organic chemistry, materials physics, and advanced technologies, the researcher focuses her work on transforming plants and agro-industrial waste into functional materials and advanced systems obtained through sustainable methods. These can have diverse applications, ranging from the delivery of bioactive substances to the removal of pollutants from water.

Her scientific work promotes the convergence of chemistry, materials science, environmental engineering, and nanotechnology, contributing to the development of green bioinnovation and the circular economy, with a direct impact on society.

Adina-Elena Segneanu is also involved in major international projects, such as PHENOCYCLES, which brings together partners from Europe, South America, and Asia to
