Florin Lobonț, senior researcher in the Department of History, Theology, and Philosophy at the West University of Timișoara, was recently awarded the “Eugen TODORAN” Prize for Humanities and Vocational Sciences at the UVT 2025 Awards Gala.

In a recent interview, Professor Lobonț discussed the role of philosophy in society, emphasizing how this discipline has always been called upon to respond to dilemmas and crises, whether political, social, technological, or climatic. Philosophy, he says, does not offer quick solutions, but rather the tools necessary for critical thinking and deep reflection.

Florin Lobonț is a member of several international scientific societies, with internships and invitations to universities across Europe, and founder of the Center for Jewish and Israeli Studies and the Romanian Center for Penitentiary Studies. He has published numerous articles and books in the fields of philosophy of history, post-Holocaust philosophy, philosophical counseling, applied ethics, and history of philosophy.

Listen to the interview to discover why, even in the age of technology and quick fixes, philosophy remains an essential voice in understanding and managing the complexities of the contemporary world.
