The Research Career Counseling and Guidance Center \u2013 Western Region hosted an event on January 20, 2025, dedicated to those passionate about knowledge and reflection. Special guest Andrei Cornea offered all participants an unforgettable evening through a captivating dialogue with physicist Daniel Vizman about Plato’s contribution to exploring the relationship between science and humanism.<\/p>

Andrei Cornea is a prominent figure in the Romanian cultural landscape. A member of the Romanian Writers’ Union and several prestigious academic societies, he has been noted since the 1970s for his first translation of Plato’s dialogue “The Republic” into Romanian.<\/p>

A prolific author, Andrei Cornea has published numerous reference volumes, including:<\/p>

  • The Khazar Tournament. Against Postmodern Relativism (Nemira, 1997; reprinted by Polirom, 2003; Humanitas, 2024);<\/li>
  • About the Unbelievable Nature of Freedom (Humanitas, 2014);<\/li>
  • The Amazing History of Sabbatai Mesiah (Humanitas, 2015).<\/li><\/ul>

    He translated fundamental works of ancient philosophy in their entirety, including:<\/p>

    • Works (complete edition, Ed. Humanitas);<\/li>
    • Works (Ed. Humanitas, 2003-2009);<\/li>
    • Epicurus and Ancient Epicureanism (2016).<\/li><\/ul>

      His active presence in national and international media (Radio Free Europe, BBC, Radio Romania Cultural) and articles published in magazines such as 22, Dilema, and Observator cultural confirm his passion for dialogue and debate.<\/p>

      Participants had the opportunity to discover how Plato’s thinking can offer solutions for reducing the gap between scientific and humanistic research in the modern context.<\/p>

      The event also included the launch of Andrei Cornea’s latest translation: Plato, Works, IV (Humanitas Publishing House, 2024), a valuable contribution to philosophical culture in Romania.<\/p>
