A mathematician, former Olympiad competitor, graduate of the Faculty of Mathematics at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iași, and Ph.D. in computer science from the Romanian Academy, Andrei Alexandru is a research scientist at the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science of the Romanian Academy.
He is currently the president of the National Research Authority, holding the rank of secretary of state in the Ministry of Education and Research. In this interview, he speaks from a dual perspective: that of a researcher who understands the needs of those working in the R&D&I system, and that of a decision-maker involved in the reforms, funding, and strategic direction of Romanian research.
